In considering which process to use to craft the memory vessels, I tried creating a pot using the coil technique. This involved rolling the clay into evenly sized rolls, and then adding them to the base of the pot as ring shapes to build up the pot layer by layer. The rings on each level must be smoothed down into the sides of the pot to ensure they adhere and that no air enters. Once finished, the whole vessel can be scraped using a tool to create smooth sides.
After trying out the process, I decided to make the vessels using throwing instead. Although the coil technique is easier, I found that it takes much longer, and it was difficult to make each level evenly sized, resulting in an uneven shape over all. I have a small amount of experience with throwing, and although it will be challenging to get back into it, I feel that I could produce vessels of a higher quality using throwing.
