In considering ways of depicting human experiences into tangible form, I experimented with producing some portraits with the aim of conveying different experiences. Inspired by Morris Graves, and the work of the Modernists, I experimented with using different forms of abstraction, and I enjoyed the challenge of attempting to convey emotions and experiences into the work.
I do feel that the results were interesting and I think they successfully conveyed something more than simple figures/ portraits, however it is ultimately not the direction I want to go in with this project. I think that the inclusion of the portraits takes something away from the viewer's interpretation of the work- they are viewing the person depicted rather than the focus being on their own memories and experiences as I had intended. I decided instead to focus more on landscapes, and how these can be representative of our inner experience.
