Printmaking Techniques - Monoprinting

Monoprinting is a technique that creates single, one-off images. Ink is applied to a plate and then an image is transferred to the paper using a variety of methods such as drawing, stenciling and applying objects and a wide variety of effects can be achieved. I created the below monoprints using some foliage.

Ink or acrylic paint is applied thinly and evenly to a plate using a roller. I used printing ink.

I arranged the foliage directly onto the inked plate before covering it with paper and rolling it through a printing press

Prints placed on the drying rack

My initial print of foliage placed on top of a black plate

I re-printed the black plate after the foliage had made an impression

I made this print by placing the inked foliage on a burnt sienna plate
